TeachEngineering

TeachEngineering is a large curated collection of high-quality open-access instructional materials supporting K-12 about engineering. It has great value for K-12 STEM educators – and the students training to become one.

The collection contains 100s of lesson plans and 1000s of learning activities, as well as curricular units, maker challenges and other instructional resources. Each one is reviewed before being included. All materials are freely available for educational and non-commercial use.

TeachEngineering’s goal is to support K-12 STEM learning through instructional materials that demonstrate on the role of engineering principles in everyday life: “to make applied science and math come alive through engineering design.”

The site and its content are maintained by UC-Boulder Engineering and Oregon State University. Most contributions are from NSF-funded engineering colleges.

The interface for browsing and searching is clean and easy to use.

Narrowing options include:

  • “Curriculum Type”: lesson plan, discrete activity, etc. “Sprinkle” is a small collection of Spanish-language materials.
  • Grade level(s). This is extremely helpful for users who need to focus on specific educational levels.
  • Conformance to standards: Next Generation Science Standards and/or Common Core Math.

Individual materials in the collection contain some or all of these details:

  • Grade levels
  • Learning objectives
  • Pre-requisite knowledge
  • Instructional content
  • Worksheets
  • Videos
  • Materials and costs
  • Assessments
  • Standards
  • Suggestions for extending or scaling
  • Links to “More… like this”

“Quick Look” details for “Hands-on Activity: Wide World of Gears” contributed by the AMPS GK-12 Program, Polytechnic Institute of New York University.
